McSweeney & Ricci Donates to Ellis Memorial School

McSweeney & Ricci Donates Backpacks and Supplies to Ellis Memorial School Students

An alumni of Notre Dame Academy, McSweeney & Ricci President Mary Lou Ricci noticed a post on the Notre Dame Alumni Facebook Page by Ellis Memorial School Development and Volunteer Associate, Rebecca Mullaley that the school was having trouble meeting their quota for their yearly collection of backpacks and back-to-school supplies for students. Mrs. Ricci knew she could help and immediately coordinated a collection effort with McSweeney & Ricci employees to donate the backpacks and supplies for the Ellis students.

Ellis Memorial School is a non-profit located in Boston’s South End. They provide high quality early education and care for infants, toddlers, and preschool children, and out-of-school time programs for youth in grades K through 7 at sites in the South End and Roxbury.

Within one day, McSweeney employees had signed up to donate new backpacks and a full list of school supplies the following week. “The list filled up immediately! I couldn’t believe how quickly everyone sprang into action to help. I even had a few co-workers complain that the list had filled up too quickly and they weren’t able to sign up for anything but still wanted to help. Those that weren’t able to sign up, took it upon themselves to purchase gift cards and additional supplies so that we had a surplus to give the school. It was amazing,” said Marketing Director, Leigh Sullivan, who helped coordinate the effort.

On Tuesday, August 21st Ellis volunteer Rebecca Mullaley collected the backpacks (that ranged from Adidas, Nike and Under Armour, to pink unicorns and tie die for the younger students) that were filled with everything the students would need for the return back-to-school. The backpacks included:

  • notebooks
  • rulers
  • erasers
  • pens and pencils
  • calculators
  • hand sanitizers
  • crayons
  • markers
  • sticky notes
  • sharpeners

Each backpack also contained a $25 gift card to Old Navy so that each student would be able to purchase a new back-to-school outfit. The filled backpacks will be given out to students on Friday, August 24th so that they will be fully prepared in time for their return to school.
